|
Computer Supported Co-operative Work (CSCW) can be supported by several different technologies and software. Software which supports this collaborative style of work is sometimes known as Groupware or Teamware.
CSCW involves different looking at many different types of co-operative and collaborative work. CSCW looks at how systems can be built using hardware and software to aid co-operative work. It analyses the underlying communications that occur within multi-user workspaces. CSCW is an important field of study within Interactive Systems Design (ISD) as all computer systems socially linked to some extent.
Co-operative systems should be designed with the work habits of the users in mind. The rapid advancement in communications and networking technologies has led to organisations and businesses becoming larger and more distributed. CSCW focuses on how these networked systems can be used to support collaborative work rather than become an obstacle.
